BLOOMFIELD, N.Y. — The Ontario County Sheriff’s Office issued a warning regarding fraudulent used car sales online. Deputies say they found a case in Bloomfield where a scammer sold a car in worse condition than advertised, resulting in a loss for the buyer.
The seller has been arrested several times in other counties for similar schemes, deputies say. In another case, deputies say a vehicle was sold with an active lien that wasn’t disclosed at the time of the sale, resulting in additional financial and legal complications for the purchaser.
Deputies also say the suspect is known to have used multiple aliases when selling vehicles. On Wednesday, Irondequoit Police say a man was robbed after arranging to buy a car through a market site.

Deputies ask anyone who thinks they may have been a victim of similar fraudulent vehicle sales to contact the sheriff’s office at 585-394-4560.
