Bradford Doolittle ranked the Diamondbacks’ lineup as the 11th-best in the league. Arizona’s 2026 lineup sees most of its core return from last season, with Ketel Marte, Geraldo Perdomo, Corbin Carroll and Gabriel Moreno back.
The Diamondbacks scored the sixth-most runs (793) in the MLB last season, while hitting the eighth-most home runs (214) and hitting an eighth-best .251. Perdomo led the team with a .291 hitting average and 100 RBIs, while Carroll hit 31 home runs, second behind Eugenio Suarez (36), who was traded ahead of the 2025 MLB trade deadline.
Arizona made a few additions this offseason to the lineup, with the acquisition of third baseman Nolan Arenado from the St. Louis Cardinals and the signing of first baseman Carlos Santana. Despite the additions, Doolittle noted there are questions about Arenado and Santana, given they will turn 35 and 40, respectively, during the season.
The Diamondbacks had a dangerous offense last season and remained solid even after trading away Eugenio Suarez and Josh Naylor. There’s a lot of question marks now, especially with health. Having Arenado and Santana in the order would have been really exciting a few years ago.
Arenado is coming off a down 2025 campaign, where the eight-time All-Star played in only 107 games and missed time with a right shoulder sprain. He slashed a career-low .237/.289/.377 with 12 home runs and 52 RBIs.
Meanwhile, Santana is also coming off a down year offensively as the veteran slashed .219/.308/.325 with 11 home runs and 54 RBIs between stints with the Cleveland Guardians and Chicago Cubs.
Additionally, the D-backs are dealing with injuries to key players in the lineup as outfielder Lourdes Gurriel Jr. will begin the season on the injured list as he continues his recovery from a torn ACL. In addition, Carroll suffered a broken hamate bone in his right hand during batting practice on Feb. 10 and his status for Opening Day remains in question.
Arizona’s depth in the lineup will be tested as the D-backs traded outfielder Jake McCarthy to the Colorado Rockies and utility player Blaze Alexander to the Baltimore Orioles during the offseason. Players such as Jordan Lawlar, Alek Thomas and Pavin Smith are candidates that will likely be called upon to step up in the lineup.
