ROCHESTER, N.Y. – We’re entering the season of temperature tug-of-war, where spring air tries to replace winter air but winter doesn’t necessarily want to budge. Friday will see a mini warmup with temperatures starting in the 20s and climbing into the 40s with dry weather and some sunshine. A balmy breeze ahead of a cold front will keep temperatures in the 30s and even lower 40s to start the weekend, but a cold front looms.
This cold front will drop our temperatures early Saturday from the 40s back into the lower 30s and upper 20s by evening. Aside from an early rain shower with the arrival of the cold front, much of the rest of Saturday should be rain (and snow) free. That will change Saturday night. An area of light snow will move in Saturday night, and end Sunday morning. Amounts will be very low, with about an inch for most spots, but some flakes will kick off Sunday.
We keep the chill around on Monday, with highs holding in the lower half of the 20s, but a pattern change awaits! The middle part of the week will become more unsettled with at least one wave of low pressure bringing the chance of a wintry mix of snow, rain and perhaps a slippery mix, but warmer air should win out by later in the week, with highs climbing back into the 40s. There are growing signs of spring temperatures surging into WNY by later next weekend and the following week. Granted, this is still a ways out, but it is looking more and more likely we’ll see a nice little warmup.
