Rochester restaurants look to see customer increase during ‘Eat Up ROC: Downtown Restaurant Week’

ROCHESTER, N.Y. — Local restaurants in Rochester are hoping to draw more customers with the return of “Eat Up Roc: Downtown Restaurant Week.” This event, which starts Friday, aims to counter the trend of fewer people dining out, as 37% of Americans reported visiting restaurants less in 2025, according to a poll from YouGov.com.

During the event, restaurants like Pane Vino will offer lunch and dinner specials and discounts to attract customers. Grace Rosario, assistant manager at Pane Vino, said, “A lot of people don’t go out anymore. A lot of people can’t afford what it is to come out and enjoy a 3 or 4 course meal for less than 100 bucks.”

Rosario explained that Pane Vino has been lowering prices and offering promotions, such as a date night deal on Mondays and Tuesdays for $100 per couple. “We’ve been doing different promotions like we have a date night promotion now on Mondays and Tuesdays, which is $100 per couple, like for the couple. And you do get to have an appetizer, a salad and two entrees for the price of $100. So we did that in order to be more flexible and more reasonable with everyone,” Rosario said.

A few blocks away, Shell Restaurant is also feeling the pressure from rising costs of raw ingredients. Cruz Nieves of Shell said, “Cost of goods, it’s always going up. I have not seen a dip on the cost of goods, which is kind of, like, always challenging, you know, with restaurants. Because, you know, you always want to keep your prices, you know, very reasonable. So that’s kind of been a challenge to kind of like, navigate those kind of like increases in prices.”

Despite these challenges, Nieves expressed optimism about the upcoming event. “I think it’s going encourage a lot of people to come out. And if not, you know, it’s getting a lot of good press,” he said.

This is the first time restaurant week is returning in four years. It will run from Friday through March 8.
