A series of services in honor of the late Rev. Jesse Jackson will get underway Thursday, with members of the public invited to the first of the tributes.
Jackson will lie in repose at Rainbow PUSH headquarters this week, and NBC Chicago will air a half-hour special paying tribute to his remarkable life on Thursday.
Jackson, who died last week at the age of 84, will lie in repose at Rainbow PUSH before his body is transported to South Carolia and Washington, D.C., before ultimately returning to Chicago for his homegoing service and burial.
According to officials with Rainbow PUSH, the day will begin with a procession bringing Jackson from a local funeral home to the organization’s headquarters, located at 930 East 50th Street in Chicago’s Kenwood neighborhood.
NBC Chicago will stream the procession live on our 24/7 Streaming News Channel beginning at approximately 7 a.m.
The building will open to the public at 10 a.m., with Jackson lying in response until late Thursday evening, according to Rainbow PUSH officials.
Those residents interested in paying tribute to Jackson can line up along Drexel Avenue.
To help with traffic, Chicago police will close Drexel Boulevard between East Hyde Park Boulevard and East 49th Street between 5:30 a.m. and 11:15 p.m. on Thursday.
East 50th Street will also be closed between South Drexel Avenue and South Ellis Avenue.
During the day on Thursday, NBC Chicago will air a special paying tribute to Jackson’s legacy, with that special beginning at 11:30 a.m. on NBC 5 and on the station’s 24/7 Streaming News platform.

Jackson will also lie in repose on Friday at Rainbow PUSH.
Jackson will lie in repose in the South Carolina state capitol rotunda on March 2, with a public service being held in the capital on Monday.
Jackson will then be honored back in Chicago with a People’s Celebration at House of Hope, located at 752 East 114th Street, beginning at 10 a.m. on Friday, March 6.
His final private homegoing service will be held at Rainbow PUSH on March 7.
