Whitesnake's Reb Beach is not done yet.
Speaking with Blabbermouth in an interview published yesterday, Feb. 24, the Whitesnake and Winger axe-man, who’s collaborated with Chaka Khan, the Bee Gees, and Twisted Sister, didn’t hold back, calling Whitesnake’s farewell tour “terrible” while throwing out ideas for getting back on the road.
“It was the worst ending that it could have been," Beach said about Whitesnake’s Farewell Tour. "It couldn’t have been any worse than it was. It’s just how the cookie crumbled. We had a new management, and we had a terrible soundman, then everyone got sick, and it fell apart like Jenga, like all over the table: ‘Okay, guys, that’s it. We sucked. Goodbye.’”
He added, “I'm talking about front-of-house. The whole band’s sound was bad. We had shitty hotels. It was a terrible tour; that last tour. Now that’s going to be the fucking headline!”
Whitesnake’s final tour kicked off in May 2022 and was cancelled early due to health issues. Their last live show ended up being at Hellfest in Clisson, France, on June 23, 2022, with bandmate Steve Vai joining lead singer David Coverdale onstage for an emotional rendition of “Still of the Night.”
“To be back on stage with David, unleashing that historic monster of a track … was an honor,” Vaid told Tipot Rock in November 2025.
To feel David‘s energy on the stage again, and Tommy Aldridge‘s slamming beats, and to finally be able to jam with my friend @joelhoekstra13 and the rest of the “Snakes” in front of 45,000 people was just electrifying. Deep appreciation to all. 2/2 pic.twitter.com/E8k4hrzS5x
— Steve Vai (@stevevai) June 24, 2022“Other than [our farewell tour], we had a whole tour scheduled with Scorpions,” Beach shared with Blabbermouth. “David couldn't do it. He called me and said, 'Rebel. I'm exhausted.’”
On the band’s official website, Coverdale shared a message for fans that reads, “It is with profound disappointment and a heavy heart that I must announce that Whitesnake will no longer be able to join the Scorpions on their US and Canadian tour due to my continued treatment for a persistent upper respiratory infection that affects my ability to perform. This includes the cancellation of our own headlining shows as well.”
The note continued, “While Whitesnake will no longer be on the tour, the Scorpions will be continuing on. We Wish Our Good Friends, The Scorpions Every Success!!! We Wish You Well” David Coverdale”
Coverdale, who is also the former vocalist of Deep Purple, officially retired last year, at 74, telling fans on Instagram that he’s “hanging up his rock and roll platform shoes and skintight jeans” to enjoy retirement.
“That's it,” Beach said. “Whitesnake is definitely done. It makes me sad, of course. We’d be there in a second if David were up for it, but what the hell? How old is David? Seventy-three? Let him retire. I think it’s lovely that he’s going to retire and go on the beach and just enjoy his later years.”
As for Beach, the Pittsburgh native is not done playing. Currently, he enjoys doing standup comedy and playing guitar with supergroup Black Swan, which includes singer Robin McAuley, drummer Matt Starr, and bass player Jeff Pilson of Foreigner. The crew’s third studio album, Paralyzer, drops Feb. 27.
View this post on InstagramSpeaking about whether he thinking Black Swan will do live shows, Beach said, “There are very positive facets to us performing live. And there are negative ones,” citing cost, the band’s lack of notoriety internationally, and the fact that some of its members are still touring with more famous groups, ahem, Foreigner.
“Jeff Pilson is out with Foreigner for the rest of his life,” Beach laughed. “I would be out with Foreigner for the rest of my life! It's a killer band. And John Roth is in that band. A lot of people don't know that. He's been in Winger since 1993. He sings like a bird. They got him.”
Some ideas Beach does have for the future include a nostalgia-fueled guitar fest.
“I had some choices. It's like, ‘Okay, do I want to take Reb Beach's '80s Guitar Extravaganza on the road?' Get great musicians and get some other has-been '80s guys like me [laughs] and go out there and do Whitesnake, Winger, Cinderella songs. People love that! They would love that. It would be great.
He also mentioned doing live shows with the Reb Beach Project, rocking out to his own songs as well as those by Jimi Hendrix and fellow guitar legends.
Capping off the interview, he offered his biggest dream yet: “If I get a call from Def Leppard saying their guitar player broke his hand, I'm going to be there in a second. I'd love to go on a tour. That's where I belong. I belong on the road. I'm a road dog. I love hotels and being with the guys. I was born for it."
