Sally Field is officially back.
After stepping away from acting for the past three years, the Oscar winner will star in the new book-to-movie adaptation of "Remarkably Bright Creatures." The film is set to be released on Netflix in May 2026.
On Wednesday, Feb. 25, Netflix released a first look at the film, in which Fields stars as Tova.
"Dive into a first look at REMARKABLY BRIGHT CREATURES, starring Sally Field and Lewis Pullman, based on the bestselling novel by Shelby Van Pelt coming to Netflix May 8," read the caption of a post uploaded to Netflix's official Instagram account.
View this post on InstagramVan Pelt's novel, which was released in 2022, tells the story of a widow (Tova) who takes on a job at an aquarium after losing her husband. Tova forms an unlikely bond with Marcellus, a giant octopus, who helps her unravel the long-buried truth behind her son’s disappearance at sea.
Fans are thrilled to see the movie and many are excited for Field's newest project.
"I could cry. Love this book so much," one person wrote in the comments section of the post uploaded by Netflix.
"Great casting," someone else said.
"OMG YES! One of my favorite books," a third comment read.
Field's role in the film was confirmed by Variety in August 2024. Though she hasn't officially retired from acting, it seems as though she's become a bit more selective when it comes to roles she'd like to portray. Prior to Remarkably Bright Creatures, Field starred in "80 for Brady," which was released in 2023. She's had less than a dozen roles over the past decade.
