Hunter S. Thompson famously said that "when the going gets weird, the weird turn professional." So, with how this year has gone, it makes sense that The Claypool Lennon Delirium would return with a concept album about "morality, mortality, and the warnings of A.I" and "the slippery slope of optimization without empathy."
The Claypool Lennon Delirium—a project of Les Claypoolof Primus and Sean Ono Lennon, the son of John Lennonand Yoko Ono—announced on Wednesday that they'll release their third album, The Great Parrot-Ox and the Golden Egg of Empathy, on May 1 via ATO. It's their first full-length since 2019's South of Reality.
If the title didn't give it away, the upcoming LP is a concept album. "The Great Parrot-Ox and the Golden Egg of Empathy was over three years in the making and was the most labor-intensive recording I have ever been involved in," said Claypool in a press release, per Brooklyn Vegan. "The results are something Shiner and I are very proud of; a relevant concept piece accompanied by a colorful, phantasmic comic book."
With the news, the Claypool Lennon Delirium released their new song, "The Golden Egg of Empathy." The new tune features WILLOW, who portrays the sacred feathered Goddess who meets a "young man destined to unravel the fabric of his father's folly" and "holds the egg-shaped key to their future."
The album is a cautionary tale about humanity's continued favoring of machines over man. The story goes:
Set in the once-glorious land of Cliptopia, where a sentient A.I. known as Cliptron and his army of robots are resourcing everything, then turning it all into Clipnex brand paperclips, the album follows young artist Hippard O. Campus Jr. as he rebels against his father, Hippard Sr. (owner of the CLIPNEX corporation and creator of CLIPTRON). With help from salty sea-dog Colonel O'Coren, Hipp embarks on a fantastical adventure to stop Cliptron's cold, chrome heart from converting the world, humans included, into paperclips.
Hipp's quest leads across the sea to the Isle of Lucidity, where the all-wise Ministry of Manatees guides him to the Great Parrot-Ox, whose Golden Egg of Empathy is the only thing that can bring understanding and emotion to Cliptron.

Les Claypool has a busy 2026 set for him. In February, he announced Claypool Gold, a Summer tour featuring three of his bands: Primus, The Claypool Lennon Delirium, and Les Claypool's Fearless Flying Frog Brigade. Each night, all three bands will share the stage, all at once, for a "fluid show featuring wildly different setlists and surprises."
Primus will also release Frizzle Fry: The Phantoms of Barrington Hall, an illustrated fable based on Claypool's lyrics of Primus. And in the late summer, Primus will head to Europe and the UK for their first overseas tour in almost a decade.
The Claypool Lennon Delirium released a teaser for their new album earlier in the year with artwork that, at first, seemed like a John Lennon-shaped Easter Egg. Apparently, it's a manatee, not a walrus. Whoops.
