GREECE, N.Y. — Monroe County DMVs have introduced a new system aimed at reducing wait times, but some customers reported experiencing longer waits. News10NBC’s Declan Stablow reported live from the Greece DMV, where some wait times reached up to five and a half hours.
The Greece DMV closed its doors for the day around 5:00 pm due to reaching capacity, but a few people were still trying to get in.
Data from the county clerk’s office showed that average wait times yesterday were about 75 minutes, with the exception of the Henrietta office, which had wait times of less than 50 minutes. Last week, average wait times were less than an hour.
Edward Rosado, who attempted to visit the DMV yesterday but left due to long waits, returned today. Initially, his wait time was 17 minutes but later increased to five hours.
“I doubt I’ll need to wait those five hours, but it would be nice to know, like, how long I actually have to wait before I make a decision about waiting or, you know, coming back. It’s hard. It’s hard. And I wish it was better, more accurate. Because. And then, like, once I’ve missed you, my appointment, it’s not like I get a retry,” Rosado said.
The county clerk’s office said the issues with wait times will resolve themselves as they gather more data on walk-ins.
Stablow visited other DMVs in the area and found that wait times in Irondequoit were similar to those in Greece, while customers at the Henrietta DMV reported a smoother process.
The county clerk said the system upgrade represents a long-term investment in customer experience.
