Robert Carradine's concerning behavior before his death was revealed by Connie Lamothe, the director of a film titled The Driver, on which the actor had been working.
On Monday, Feb. 23, Carradine—known for his roles in Revenge of the Nerds, Lizzie McGuire, The Long Ride and more—died by suicide at 71.

“It is with profound sadness that we must share that our beloved father, grandfather, uncle, and brother Robert Carradine has passed away," a statement from his family to Deadline read. "In a world that can feel so dark, Bobby was always a beacon of light to everyone around him."
The message continued, “We are bereft at the loss of this beautiful soul and want to acknowledge Bobby’s valiant struggle against his nearly two-decade battle with Bipolar Disorder. We hope his journey can shine a light and encourage addressing the stigma that attaches to mental illness.”
View this post on InstagramAt the time of his death, Carradine had been working on a film called The Driver, also known as Driving Into Darkness. He was set to play a mob boss in the movie, but went MIA before a table read this week.
Lamothe told TMZ in an article published on Feb. 24 that Carradine went "radio silent" in January.
Additionally, the director said that one of Carradine's friends, "who is also in the cast, knew of his struggles with mental health." Lamothe explained, "So, they decided to give him some space... and hoped he would return."
The director told TMZ that Carradine was "delightful" and "cheerful," even when she teased that he would need to cut his hair and shave his beard for the role in her film.
Carradine is survived by his three kids, Ever, Ian, and Marcia, and his grandchildren.
