Northern Illinois’ football team will join the Mountain West Conference for the 2026 season, and their opponents have now been revealed.
The Huskies left the MAC after the 2025 season, and they’ll be part of a new-look Mountain West that will also be welcoming North Dakota State into the mix for the coming year.
In fact, the Huskies will travel to take on the Bison in Fargo during the 2026 season, with that game replacing a previously scheduled tilt with New Mexico, according to the conference’s new scheduling matrix.
Among the teams traveling to DeKalb during the Huskies’ first Mountain West season will be Hawaii and Air Force, with the full schedule to be announced at a later date.

Their home opener will be played September 12 against Illinois State, a team fresh off a runner-up finish in FCS during the 2025 campaign.
