Jamie Lee Curtis is paying tribute to Robert Carradinefollowing the news of his death on Monday. He was 71.
Sharing that she "woke up to the news" of his death, she took to Instagram with a lengthy post, where she described their relationship as her "first experience with domesticity and motherhood and partnership," sharing how the two met and "became a family."
"I met him live on television on 'The Dinah Shore Show' when they had a bunch of second generation actors, we would call them now Nepo babies, Veronica, Cartwright, and Bobby and I came on last and Bobby rearranged where we were all sitting so that he could sit next to me and he kissed me, live on television," she shared. "A very public meet cute."
The two went on to live together with his daughter, Ever, whom Curtis became close with.
"I remember walking with Ever to the little Canyon market and bringing our laundry down to the laundromat below and folding her little clothes for the first time and the simplicity and beauty of Laurel Canyon in the late 70s," she recalled.While the pair's relationship wasn't highly publicized, she also referred to him as her "first love" in a 2023 Instagram.

Curtis also shared that the Lizzie McGuire star went on to date Melanie Griffith, whom the 'Halloween' actress later become best friends with.
"She was the one who told me about his passing," Curtis wrote.
Concluding her tribute, Curtis shared the sweet moment where she realized, "he was my first crush in the movies and I didn't realize it," when she learned that he played Slim in 'The Cowboys' in 1972. She also shared how Carradine worked with her husband Christopher Guest.
'We were [sic] remained friends after we broke up and Ever and I have as well," she said. "The long and winding road. Rest in speed and humor and love, Bobby."
Carradine, who took his own life, suffered from bipolar disorder, according to a statement shared by his family.
“We are bereft at the loss of this beautiful soul and want to acknowledge Bobby’s valiant struggle against his nearly two-decade battle with Bipolar Disorder," the statement read. "We hope his journey can shine a light and encourage addressing the stigma that attaches to mental illness.”
