GENEVA — President of the Saudi Human Rights Commission Dr. Hala Al-Tuwaijri said more than 15 million residents from over 60 countries live and work in Saudi Arabia under an integrated legislative, institutional and judicial framework that guarantees respect for their rights.Speaking during the high-level segment of the 61st session of the United Nations Human Rights Council in Geneva, she affirmed the Kingdom’s commitment to strengthening and protecting human rights and enhancing international cooperation through constructive dialogue and mutual respect.Al-Tuwaijri congratulated the council’s current president and commended the efforts of the UN High Commissioner for Human Rights and his team.She said Saudi Arabia values the council’s objectives and stressed the importance of achieving them through joint cooperation.The commission president noted that national policies have been adopted and activated to promote equal opportunity and equal treatment in employment, eliminate forced labor and prevent child labor.She highlighted reforms implemented under Vision 2030, including regulatory updates in 2025 such as the Sports Law, which incorporates a human rights-based approach grounded in equality and non-discrimination.Al-Tuwaijri said these efforts have led to measurable results, including an increase in compliance with occupational safety and health standards from 15% to 73%, and a 70% reduction in work-related deaths.She added that the unemployment rate declined from 12.3% in 2016 to nearly 7% in 2025.On women’s empowerment, she said female participation in the labor market exceeded 34%, reflecting growth of more than 108% since 2017, while women now hold 44% of middle and senior management positions.She called on the international community to adopt firm measures to ensure accountability for crimes committed against children.Addressing regional issues, Al-Tuwaijri reaffirmed Saudi Arabia’s condemnation of continued attacks on Palestinians in Gaza and reiterated the Kingdom’s position on the rights of the people of Gaza.She also expressed support for Yemen’s security and stability and voiced concern over the ongoing conflict in Sudan, calling for an end to the war in line with the Jeddah Declaration.She concluded by stressing that the Kingdom’s human rights reforms stem from national priorities and the goals of Vision 2030, underscoring that protecting human rights is both a legal obligation and a moral duty rooted in national values.
