James Dear, known professionally as Luci4 or Axxturel, has died. He was 23.
The news was confirmed in a TikTok post shared late Sunday by Dear’s manager, Kayla G.
“I am devastated to inform you that today, James, Luci4, Axxturel has passed away,” she wrote of the Los Angeles native. “He was truly a leader a king and a musician and a genius. There’s nobody like him and there will never be. We all loved him dearly. Rest Easy. Please allow family and friends privacy and patience during this difficult time.”
View this post on InstagramTMZ reported on Dear’s death, saying that the grandparents of the viral underground rapper are suspicious of the events surrounding their grandson’s death.
“His wallet was completely emptied,” the outlet reported them as saying, “and they had recently warned him about the people he’d been spending time with as his fame started taking off.”
Men’s Journal reported that the Los Angeles Fire Department responded to a medical call at the home of one of Dear’s friends around 11:40 a.m. Sunday, “but discovered the person deceased upon arrival.” An autopsy is currently scheduled.
Law enforcement has set up a crime scene; their investigation is ongoing, sources told TMZ. It's unclear whether foul play is suspected, and The cause of death has not been released.
Per Billboard, Dear started out in the industry as aproducer in Spaceghostpurrp’s MBM Deathrow collective, pioneering the sigilkore genre and krushclub subgenre on SoundCloud. In 2021, the artist’s breakthrough came with the single “Bodypartz,” which earned him a deal with Atlantic Records. The single was certified gold by the RIAA in 2024.
