The annual idobi Radio Summer School Tour, which spotlights emerging pop punk and indie acts, is hitting the road again for its third year, kicking off in Southern California.
This year’s lineup features five bands, including Summer School alum Honey Revenge, which has graduated to headliner after previously being an opening act. The band is joined by newcomers South Arcade, Games We Play, Winona Fighter, and Chase Petra.
Southern California pop punk fans looking to get in on the ground floor of some of the genre’s freshest acts will be the first to experience the tour, with the first stop at The Observatory North Park in San Diego on June 19, followed by another stop at The Belasco in Los Angeles on June 20. The tour will travel to two dozen major cities across North America this summer before capping off with a finale in Long Beach on July 25 at the Vans Warped Tour, where each Summer School artist will perform at the festival.
Tickets will be available during a Citi presale starting at 10 a.m. Tuesday, Feb. 24, via citientertainment.com, and an idobi Radio Summer School presale starting at 10 a.m. on Wednesday, Feb. 25, via summerschooltour.com. Additional presales will run throughout the week, leading up to the general onsale beginning at 10 a.m. on Friday, Feb. 27.
Guitar Center, Peta2, and SJC Drums have also partnered with the tour as sponsors for this year’s run, with Guitar Center providing gear for artists and hosting several in-store appearances and events in select markets.
The traveling tour was founded by Eric Tobin (Hopeless Records), Michael Kaminsky (KMGMT), and Kevin Lyman (Vans Warped Tour), and sponsored by idobi Radio, the streaming internet radio station.
As veterans of both the music business and the scene itself – with decades of collective experience cultivating and supporting artists from the ground level – Kaminsky, Tobin, and Lyman came together to launch Summer School two years ago, looking to platform emerging artists and provide their young fans a tour to experience.
“When we launched the idobi Radio Summer School tour a few years ago, we wanted to bring something back to the touring landscape that’s been missing for emerging artists as much as the young fans who fuel our local music scenes nationwide,” said Tobin, Kaminsky and Lyman in a statement.
“From day one, Summer School has been about music discovery and community. A traveling festival with rotating bills, where you show up early, stay all night, and hopefully leave with a new favorite band — all at a ticket price that’s actually affordable. As we head into year three, we could not be more excited and grateful to continue realizing that vision with a lineup as incredible as this one.”
