Windsor Parks, Recreation & Culture is accepting applications for the inaugural season of Homestead Community Garden, seeking gardeners of all experience levels to reserve a plot to grow vegetables, flowers, fresh fruits and more.
Registration for the community garden, located at the Historic Halfway Homestead, 334 McNeil Drive in Windsor, will close March 27, according to a town news release. Plots are assigned on a first-come, first-served basis.
“Community gardening is more than growing food. It’s about connecting with neighbors, learning new skills and enjoying tending your own plot,” volunteer and horticulture specialist Christine Ginny said in the release. “We welcome both experienced gardeners and newcomers to join us for a season of growth, learning and community.”
Participants must begin planting by May 31 and must have all plant materials, supports and labels removed by Nov. 15.
Two plot options are available: raised beds for $36 and larger in-ground beds for $96.
The garden will provide water, drip and micro-spray irrigation, soil, basic tools and seasonal workshops. Plot holders will need to provide their own seeds, plants and supports.
