Egypt exempts Americans and Europeans from visa requirements

Egypt is accelerating its efforts in the tourism sector by expanding visa-free travel to include specific countries. This strategic measure significantly simplifies entry procedures and aims to increase the number of international arrivals to this vital sector of its economy.

According to the travel website capmad, this decision specifically targets travelers from the US, the UK, Canada, and the European Union, with plans to expand to other markets such as Australia and Japan, in order to capitalize on global tourism demand during the post-pandemic recovery period.

The website explained that these measures will have numerous economic and strategic implications for Egypt.

In addition to the immediate influx of visitors (an expected 10-15 percent increase starting in 2026 in the US and EU markets), this openness will boost the hotel sector, with occupancy rates exceeding 80 percent.

Over several years, Egypt has gradually relaxed its immigration policies to counter regional competition – Turkey, Morocco, Dubai – and to offset security or geopolitical risks affecting the flow of visitors to the pyramids and the Red Sea.

Citizens of Gulf countries such Saudi Arabia, the UAE, and others already enjoy full visa exemptions, while most Europeans, Americans, and Canadians receive a visa on arrival, $25 for 30 days.

This extension means no more queues or fees, with just a passport valid for at least six months.

The list now includes nearly fifty nationalities, with priority given to major tourist-generating countries.

“Travelers from the US, the United Kingdom, Canada, and the European Union (France, Germany, Italy, and others) can enter freely for 30 to 90 days, and they are joined by travelers from Australia, Japan, South Korea, and several Latin American countries”, capmad explains.

It added that this measure comes at a crucial time, as Egypt welcomed 19 million tourists in 2025 (a 21 percent increase from 2024), generating US$ 15 billion in revenue, but it aims to attract 30 million tourists by 2030.
