Oakland- 904 IU Indy – 785.5 Youngstown State- 494 Milwaukee- 438 Cleveland State- 391 Green Bay- 193 Northern Kentucky- 150.5The Oakland Golden Grizzlies have won their 13th-consecutive men’s and women’s Horizon League titles. Oakland won both titles by large margins, as they won the men’s meet by over 100 points, and the women’s meet by a whopping 255.5 points.
The final session of the meet kicked off with the women’s 1650 free, where Youngstown State sophomore Olivia Sweetman won with a time of 16:46.26. Sweetman started out fast, splitting 4:59.42 on the opening 500 yards, which is on pace for a 16:28. She slipped on the 2nd 500, however, splitting 5:09.33 on that 500.
After his win in the men’s 400 IM on Friday, Oakland freshman Cooper Dillman won the men’s 1650 free with a 15:16.32. That was a big performance for Dillman, taking 6 seconds off his previous best of 15:22.18, which was swum back in March of 2024.
Another Oakland freshman, Lydia Soldatke, won the women’s 200 back with a 1:55.88. The swim marks Soldatke’s 1st time under 1:56 in the event. The 200 back was a huge race for Oakland, as junior Clarissa Bezuidenhout took 2nd in 1:56.78, and sophomore Grace Albrecht was 3rd in 1:59.12.
Yet another Oakland freshman, Ajjuub Ezzat, claimed victory in the men’s 200 back, swimming a 1:42.42. Ezzat blew away his career best of 1:45.80, which was swum last month.
Milwaukee sophomore Christiana Brooks won the women’s 100 free as the only swimmer in the field to go under 50 seconds. Brooks clocked a 49.98, winning by nearly half a second.
IU Indy’s Yassin Abdelghany won the men’s 100 free with a 42.28, breaking the Horizon League conference record. That performance marks Abdelghany’s 3rd event qualification for next month’s NCAA’s as he was under the NCAA qualifying standard of 42.55.
Youngstown State earned their 2nd win of the night when senior Hannah Murray took the women’s 200 breast in 2:17.61. Murray got out to the early lead and managed to hold on through the back half of the race.
IU Indy’s Logan Kelly ripped a new Horizon League record of 1:52.21 in the men’s 200 breast. Kelly was DQ’d in the 100 breast final last night, where he almost assuredly would have won and qualified for NCAA’s. It wound up not making a difference, however, as he won the 200 breast and was well under the 200 breast NCAA qualifying time of 1:54.95, which automatically qualifies him for the NCAA Championships. Of note, Oakland’s Chris Palvadre came in the 2nd with a 1:54.08. Palvadre was the winner of the 100 breast last night, where he qualified for NCAAs, and since he was under the NCAA qualifying time in the 200 breast, he’s now added that event to his NCAAs schedule.
Milwaukee’s Maddi Hayashi won the women’s 200 fly in 2:01.71. She was just a touch off her career best of 2:01.50, which she swam at last year’s Horizon League Championships.
Oakland freshman Ike Martinez popped a 1:44.19 in the men’s 200 fly, winning in record fashion. The performance marks a new Horizon League conference record.
In the women’s 400 free relay, Oakland earned the win, seeing Kendra Venter (49.88), Viviane Partridge (49.84), Erika Pietras (50.34), and Avery Beal (50.03) team up for a 3:20.09. The Golden Grizzlies set a new Horizon League conference record in the process. Another notable split in the field came from Milwaukee’s Christiana Brooks, who anchored her relay in 49.37.
The meet ended with the men’s 400 free relay, where Oakland won in conference record fashion. Harry Nicholson (43.04), Joey Countryman (43.50), Micah Scheffer (43.30), and Charlie Brown (42.46) combined for a 2:52.30, setting a new Horizon League record in the process. The quickest split in the field came from IU Indy’s Yassin Abdelghany, who clocked a 42.22 on the 2nd leg of his relay.
The diving event of the day was men’s 3-meter, where IU Indy’s Sebastian Otero won with a final score of 389.55. It was a huge event for IU Indy, as Blake Vanderjeugdt came in 2nd with a score of 354.45, and Evan Butcher, as freshman, came in 3rd with a score of 351.30.
