Team Canada’s Reaction to Receiving Post-Game Stuffies After Loss Is Absurdity Gold

Team Canada suffered a stinging defeat to Team USA on the ice today.

After a relentless, pressure-packed regulation, right wing Jack Hughes scored the winning goal for Team USA in overtime, winning the team gold for the first time in 46 years.

But there’s another angle to this story that is going viral: the fact that the losers were handed adorable plush toys with which to dry their tears. Yep, even the most macho, burliest players were handed the duo of Tina the Stoat and a stuffed Flo, the official mascots of the 2026 Milan Cortina Winter Olympics.

A little background here: Tina is a white stoat. She can be seen with Milo, a brown stoat and her younger brother who's missing a paw, gallivanting around Milan. Tina is the official rep for the Olympic Games, while Milo reps the Paralympics. And stoats are an endangered animal species native to the Alps and Northern Italy that are quick and agile. Both were designed by Italian school children, per CBS news.

The other little doll is part of the Flo, “a sextet of impish animated snowdrop flowers that never leave their friends and love to have fun even if sometimes this gets them into trouble,” the NBC Olympics shared on their website.

Now, everyone fortunate enough to compete in the Winter Games is handed a pair of these stuffies, win or lose. But watching the IOC representative inch down the line of Canadian hockey stars, placing delicate little stoats and snowdrops into their hulking hands, only for the guys to barely conceal their “What the eff is this?” faces, was almost too much to handle. Which is why men’s hockey fans on Twitter aren’t holding back.

“That was heartbreaking, but this stuffy should take the sting off the loss. #WTF,” one fan wrote.

"Ngl giving Canada these stuffed animals almost seems kinda cruel to do after that loss,” wrote another.

“MacKinnon being so disgusted by the Olympic stuffie made me laugh. Team Canada is still the better team, just wasn’t their day,” another shared.

Maybe Nathan MacKinnon, center and alternate captain for the NHL’s Colorado Avalanche, was just hoping for the snowdrop that wears sunglasses. We’ll never really know.

Last Thursday, when the women's hockey Canadian team fell to Team USA in overtime, the women weren't too thrilled with their consolation prize either.

We, on the other hand, can't wait to get our mitts on these little guys. If you, too, would like your very own Olympic stoat, too bad -- they're sold out everywhere. Looks like the only way to get one is to win a medal.
