"TSA and CBP are prioritizing the general traveling population at our airports and ports of entry and suspending courtesy and special privilege escorts," the DHS Secretary told the Associated Press in a statement. The services will be suspended beginning Sunday, Feb. 22, leaving travelers little time to change plans to leave extra time for long security lines. There is currently no end date scheduled for the pause.

“Shutdowns have serious real world consequences," she continued while pointing the finger at "Democrat politicians" for "shutting down the government" as the two sides struggled to reach an agreement about imposing new restrictions on DHS after the ICE-related deaths of U.S. citizens Alex Pretti and Renée Good in Minnesota.
"Not just for the men and women of DHS and their families who go without a paycheck, but it endangers national security," she continued. The Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) will also halt all “non-disaster related response to prioritize disasters" as a winter storm approaches the Northeast.
DHS Democrats said the suspension of services was not necessary, with Noem "kneecapping the programs that make travel smoother and secure" to "ruin your travel on purpose."
US Travel Association President and CEO Geoff Freeman agreed, telling CNN that his organization was “disgusted” that “Democrats and Republicans have used air traffic controllers, TSA, CBP and the entire travel experience as a means to achieve political ends.”
“Travelers should be prioritized, not leveraged,” he added on X. “Travel is the gateway to the American economy and Americans should not have their mobility, security or travel experience diminished because elected leaders fail to resolve their differences.”

Blaming the shutdown. You're Suspending a service ALREADY paid for?! Here's a thought, we suspend your salary."
What Will the TSA PreCheck Shutdown Affect?
In addition to TSA PreCheck and Global Entry customers, Noem's plan also pauses airport police escorts for members of Congress.
CLEAR, a private service that uses biometrics to verify I.D. so users can circumvent the standard TSA document check, has not made a statement about the situation. While they could still allow customers to not have to show identification, they would not have access to the PreCheck "fast lanes" they usually use, and will likely not be able to provide the same time-saving benefit they often do.
