Friday night, Alabama beat Auburn in the Iron Bowl of Gymnastics at Neville Arena in Auburn, Alabama. The final score was Alabama 197.95 to Auburn 197.25. This was the Crimson Tide’s first win in Auburn since 2018.
“Incredibly proud of our team tonight,” head coach Ashley Johnston said. “We knew this was going to be a tough competition. There’s never a doubt in my mind that an iron bowl is going to be cutthroat and intense until the final moments.”
Rotation 1
As the away team, Alabama started the meet on the uneven bars, and Auburn on the vault. On the uneven bars, the Crimson Tide posted a 49.525 and the Tigers posted a 49.35 on the vault.
Alabama’s highest uneven bars scorers were junior Chloe LaCoursiere and freshman Azaraya Ra-Akbar who each made a 9.95. LaCoursiere and Ra-Akbar shared the uneven bars title.
Rotation 2
The Crimson Tide competed on the vault for the second rotation, and the Tigers on the uneven bars. On the vault, Alabama posted a 49.375, this brought its total to 98.9. On the uneven bars, Auburn made a 49.225 to bring its total to 98.575.
The Crimson Tide’s highest scorer was senior Jordyn Paradise, who posted a 9.95. Paradise took the vault title.
“I think Jordyn Paradise, that was a huge breakout moment on vault,” Johnston said. “She has one of the most amazing vaults, and I think has been trying to find what’s the anchor to help her really put her landing gear down.”
Rotation 3
For the third rotation, Alabama was on the floor and Auburn was on the balance beam. The Crimson Tide made a 49.525, and Auburn made a 49.35. Alabama’s score was brought up to 148.425, and Auburn’s was brought up to 147.925.
During the floor rotation, Auburn’s student section tried to get into Alabama’s heads by mocking the beginning of each floor routine. However, the Crimson Tide practices in crazy environments to ensure nothing gets in the gymnasts’ heads during competition.
“We trained to be unphased. I think that’s something we work really hard on, and it was shown tonight,” LaCoursiere said. “We came in, we had music going. We had Christmas music, Halloween music, whatever it was.”
Alabama started the floor rotation with three scores in a row of 9.9. Out of six routines, only one was below a 9.9. Senior Gabby Gladieux posted a 9.925 to mark the Crimson Tide’s highest score. Gladieux shared the floor title with Auburn’s Julianne Huff.

The all-around title went to Auburn’s Huff who posted a 39.525.
“We’re going to celebrate a great moment, a great win, but go back to the drawing board and get better,” Johnston said.
Alabama’s next meet will be next Friday in Baton Rouge, Louisiana to take on the LSU Tigers. The meet is set to start at 8:30 p.m. CT and can be streamed on SEC Network.
