William Currey has announced his commitment to swim for the University of Missouri in beginning in the fall of 2026. He confirmed the news in an email to SwimSwam, citing the program’s people and resources as key factors in his decision.
“The team, staff, and resources at the University of Missouri made it a great fit,” Currey said. “Mizzou felt like home! Go Tigers!”
A senior at Marcus High School in Flower Mound, Texas, Currey has competed for his school’s varsity swimming and diving team since his freshman year. In addition to swimming for Marcus, he currently trains year-round with Lakeside Aquatic Club, where he specializes in breaststroke.
Since the beginning of 2025, Currey has cut over two seconds off his 100 breast PB, going from 57.65 to 55.62, and over five-and-a-half seconds in the 200 breast, dropping from 2:07.64 to 2:02.11, a promising improvement trajectory heading into his collegiate career.
He qualified for Winter Juniors West this past December, where he placed 50th in the 200 breast with his current best time. He also helped Lakeside earn bronze in the 200 medley relay, splitting 24.55 on the breast leg, and fifth in the 400 medley relay with a massive 53.42 split, nearly two seconds under his flat-start personal best.
Currey didn’t have the chance to swim the 100 breast at the meet, as the qualifying standard is 55.49. He came painstakingly shy of it at the North Zone Invitational the month prior, where he broke 56 for the first time with his current PB of 55.62.
Most recently, Currey competed at the UIL Region 2-6A Championships, winning the 100 breast in a near-best 55.75 and helping Marcus win the 200 medley relay (25.40 breast split) and 400 free relay (46.49 split), as well as earn the runner-up slot in the 200 free relay (21.23 split). The state meet is scheduled for this weekend, where he’ll have a chance to lower his 100 breast best and help his team’s relays contend for top-eight finishes.

100 Breaststroke: 55.62 (*has been 53.42 from a relay swing) 200 Breaststroke: 2:02.11A Division I program, Missouri competes in the Southeastern Athletic Conference; the Tigers placed 10th out of 11 teams at the 2025 conference meet. To earn a second swim, it took times of 52.98/1:56.19 in the 100/200 breast putting Currey outside the cutoff in each of his top events.
On the team itself, Currey’s top times would currently rank fourth in the 200 breast and fifth in the 100 breast, though fellow incoming recruit Joe Warnagiris would slot just ahead of him in the latter. All of those swimmers above him are either current sophomores or juniors, so he’ll overlap one to two seasons with each as he gears up to target SEC scoring times.
Warnagiris, who owns breaststroke PBs of 55.48/2:03.75 but specializes more in backstroke and IM, is the only other publicized recruit in the Tigers’ class of 2030.
