Roads and train crossings were blocked Friday morning in the south suburbs after a freight train derailment, with more than a dozen cars derailed and emergency crews on scene.
About 4:45 a.m. Friday, 17 cars on a CSX train derailed near 140th Street and Spaulding Avenue in Harvey, with the derailment blocking crossings at Robey, Lincoln and Western Avenues, a CSX spokesperson said.
NBC 5’s Kye Martin said traffic in parts of Harvey and Dixmoor near those crossings in was being impacted.
There were no hazmat leaks or spills, and no injuries were reported, CSX said.
“CSX crews are currently on scene and working as safely and quickly as possible to clean up the impacted site and to restore freight service in the area,” the spokesperson said.
The cause of the derailment was under investigation.
