There was a huge leaderboard shift yesterday on the women’s side of the SEC Championships, and we are looking at another big one tonight.
Tennessee currently leads the women’s meet, coming in just over 20 points ahead of the reigning SEC Champions. Texas had a very strong morning session, earning 10 ‘A’ finalists to lay the groundwork to move ahead of the Vols after night three.
The men’s meet is being controlled by the reigning NCAA champions, the Texas Longhorns, and they had a strong prelims session to only extend their lead.
The women’s 100 fly final will be a battle of the freshmen with Texas’ Eva Okaro and Tennessee’s Mizuki Hirai coming in as the only sub-51 swimmers this morning. Hirai is the WJR holder in the LCM edition of the event, and both will be looking for their 1st SEC title.
Josh Liendo broke the pool record in the men’s 100 fly prelims and came just three hundredths off his SEC meet record time, which is the 2nd fastest swim in history. He is the clear favorite for the title, but we will see if he can dip under his meet record swim
Emily Brown and Ella Jansen finished 2nd and 3rd in yesterday’s 200 fly final, and tonight, they are hunting the top two spots in the women’s 400 IM for Tennessee with Texas’ Angie Coe coming in hot on their heels.
We will be seeing a lot of double in the men’s 400 IM final. Texas grabbed the top two spots with Baylor Nelson and Rex Maurer while UGA qualified 3rd and 4th, and Florida was 5th and 6th.
The women’s 200 free will see Texas Freshman Nikolett Padar as the top seed ahead of Tennessee’s Camille Spink and Georgia’s Kennedi Dobson.
The men’s individual events will wrap up with the 200 free final where Texas junior Camden Taylor earned the top seed by about three tenths over Tennessee freshman Koby Bujak-Upton.
On the women’s 3-Meter board, South Carolina’s Sophie Verzyl scored 386.30 in prelims to qualify more than 50 points ahead of Texas diver Alejandra Estudillo.
The meet will wrap up with the 400 medley relays where the Alabama women and the Texas men are the top seeds.
