The University announced the search for the Vice President for Community Impact on Wednesday.
Samory Pruitt, the current vice president for community impact, has served in his position since the creation of the Division of Community Affairs in 2004. He announced his retirement last summer after 40 years serving the University. His retirement will go into effect June 1, 2026.
The vice president for community impact is the leader of the Division of Community Affairs. Once chosen, they will be responsible for leading strategy for forming partnerships with the Tuscaloosa community, statewide leaders and national organizations.
Chad Tindol, senior vice president for partnerships and strategy, is the chair of the search committee. He will oversee the position, and he is joined by multiple judges, Tuscaloosa leaders and student representative Charlie Beth Pruett.
“As an Alabama native, I am especially excited about the opportunity to contribute to a process that will help shape how the University strengthens its partnerships and engagement across our state and beyond,” Pruett said.
Responsibilities of the role include leading efforts that grow support for UA and UA System initiatives and working closely with the President’s Office and UA System Government Relations Office to advance UA priorities at the federal and state level.
Pruitt was recognized in the Alabama Senate and House of Representatives for his work in the position, including his work to create the Crossroads Civic Engagement Center, and the creation of the Global Café and Language Partners program that offered students the opportunity to study through the Fulbright program and establishing the Community Affairs Board of Advisors.
The deadline to apply for best consideration for the position is March 14, with an expected announcement this spring.
