Arkansas football is set to hire former Memphis quarterbacks coach Mitch Stewart to the same position in Fayetteville under new head coach Ryan Silverfield. This news stems from a report from CBS Sports’ Matt Zenitz
Stewart was actually set to coach wide receivers at South Alabama before being targeted by the Razorbacks, subsequently ending his brief stint. The Arkansas QB coach job opened recently when former QBs coach Clint Trickett accepted a job with Maryland on Tuesday. In other words, it didn’t take very long for Silverfield to land on a replacement.
This will be Stewart’s first job as an assistant with a Power-level program, as he’s previously made stops with Murray State, Georgia Southern, Samford and Middle Tennessee.

— Matt Zenitz (@mzenitz) February 18, 2026As mentioned, and as you can see above, Stewart spent two years working under Silverfield at Memphis. He served as a senior offensive analyst in 2024 and quarterbacks coach in 2025 before accepting a job to coach receivers at South Alabama soon after the end of the season.
Arkansas is entering uncharted waters, but change was sorely needed. Sam Pittman left a respectable legacy in Fayetteville, but the wins-losses simply did not justify retainment. Silverfield, who saw tremendous success with the Tigers from 2020-2025, should bring a fresh, fun offensive approach to the SEC alongside Stewart and the rest of his staff.
