MOUNT MORRIS, N.Y. — For months, Irene Bodnaruk, from Mount Morris, has faced significant issues with her landline phone service, Frontier.
Bodnaruk expressed concern about not being able to communicate with her elderly father.
“I’ve had days where I’ve actually had a week where my father hasn’t been able to call me which I think is pretty serious because he’s in his 90s,” she said.
The landline issues have also affected her ability to get in touch with doctors and make important appointments.
“I’ve had days where I’ve tried to call and make appointments and I can’t so somebody’s going to get hurt or killed because they can’t get help,” Bodnaruk said.
Bodnaruk said she’s worried about what might happen in an emergency.
“If there’s a storm and my phone’s out, I don’t wanna have to drive down the road to get a signal. I need a phone that works all the time,” she said.
News10NBC’s Declan Stablow tried to call Bodnaruk’s landline and leave a voicemail during the interview, but the call did not go through.
“That last call didn’t even register on my phone that it made it to my phone so the message went into outer space someplace.”
Bodnaruk said this area is known for having bad cell service, making landlines a necessity. She recounted a visit to a cell phone shop where an employee acknowledged the area’s lack of coverage.
“I went into a cell phone shop with a friend and the guy says oh you got a phone and I showed him my flip phone and he says oh I can do better than that. Where do you live and I go up on 408 he goes forget it that’s a dead zone,” she said.
Bodnaruk has repeatedly contacted Frontier’s customer support for assistance but has only been advised to keep calling as they work on the issue. She has also filed two complaints with the FCC, but they have not been resolved.
News10NBC reached out to Frontier and the FCC for comments and are waiting for a response.
