The latest iteration of Scooby-Doo has found its first new member of Mystery Inc.
The ever-booked Mckenna Grace is stepping into a pair of iconic purple go-go boots for Netflix's upcoming live-action adaptation of the nostalgic series, meaning yes, she will portray a young Daphne Blake.
The series, which Netflix greenlit for eight episodes last March, will explore the origins of the beloved crew of mystery solvers.
“During their final summer at camp, old friends Shaggy and Daphne get embroiled in a haunting mystery surrounding a lonely lost Great Dane puppy that may have been a witness to a supernatural murder,” the series' official logline reads. “Together with the pragmatic and scientific townie, Velma, and the strange, but ever so handsome new kid, Freddy, they set out to solve the case that is pulling each of them into a creepy nightmare that threatens to expose all of their secrets.”
The Casting Feels 'Perfect' to Fans
Grace shared the exciting news on her social media account, writing, "Oh my jeepers?? I can’t believe life is real I could cry all over again just looking at this announcement. So thankful, SO excited. ???," along with an adorable childhood photo of herself dressed in full Daphne garb, orange wig and all.
View this post on InstagramFans are gearing up to see Grace take on the iconic character, calling her a "great choice" and "amazing casting."
One even admitted that, while Grace's heavy presence in film and television once annoyed them, they felt, "She’s a perfect Daphne!!"
Grace marks the first casting to be announced for the new show, with Josh Appelbaum and Scott Rosenberg both writing and running.
Grace Is a Pro at Portraying the Younger Version of Well-Known Characters
It's not her first foray into the legendary franchise, which first premiered with Scooby-Doo, Where Are You! in 1969. She previously voiced a young Daphne in 2020's animated Scoob! and was meant to do so again in a holiday-themed prequel before it found itself on the chopping block at Warner Bros. Discovery.
The Ghostbusters: Frozen Empire star is well-known for her work portraying the younger version of several main characters, such as Sabrina Spellman in the Chilling Adventures of Sabrina, Theo in The Haunting of Hill House, Emma Swan in Once Upon a Time, Tonya Harding in I, Tonya, and Carol Danvers in Captain Marvel, just to name a few.
No word yet on when filming is expected to get underway, nor when the series may finally hit our screens. There is, of course, still the little matter of the rest of the casting.
