Pulitzer Prize-winning reporter to speak in March at Aims in Greeley

A Pulitzer Prize-winning investigative reporter will speak at Aims next month, replacing University of Northern Colorado graduate “Sully” Sullenberger as the final speaker in the college’s Spotlight Speaker Series.

Charles Duhigg, who has authored three best-selling books, including “The Power of Habit,” along with his work for The New Yorker Magazine and The New York Times, will speak Wednesday, March 25, according to an Aims news release.

Drawing from several current case studies, Duhigg’s lecture will explore the science of habit formation, touching on why we do what we do and how we can change. He will explain how “the most powerful habits have emotional cores, and how tweaking even one habit can have staggering effects,” the release states.

Duhigg replaces Sullenberger, best known for landing US Airways Flight 1549 on the Hudson River in New York after both engines were disabled by a bird strike. Sullenberger was originally slated to speak next month but decided to retire, effective immediately, according to Aims.

Duhigg has won numerous awards in his two-plus-decade career, including the Pulitzer Prize for Explanatory Reporting in 2013 for leading a team of reporters in a series of 10 stories about the business practices of Apple and other technology companies. Other awards he has earned include a George Polk Award, multiple Gerald Loeb Awards and an award in investigative reporting from the Society of Professional Journalists.

He is also a regular contributor on PBS NewsHour, Frontline, CBS Sunday Morning and other CNBC and NPR programs, according to the release.

He is a graduate of the Harvard Business School and Yale College.

Duhigg will be the fourth and final speaker in the Spotlight Speaker Series — following New York Times best-selling author Amy Cuddy, former U.S. Navy SEAL officer Leif Babin and NFL safety turned neurosurgeon Dr. Myron Rolle.
