Check your pantry: A major peanut butter recall has been updated by the Food and Drug Administration, with health officials warning the products could contain pieces of plastic inside.
The recall, originally initiated by Ventura Foods LLC in April 2025, was made a “Class II” recall by the FDA Feb 12. According to the FDA, a “Class II” recall, ranking as the second of three recall levels, is a situation where exposure to the product could lead to temporarily health problems.
Ventura did not immediately respond to NBC Chicago’s request for comment.
What peanut butter was recalled?
The recall impacts thousands of packs and cups of creamy peanut butter, the FDA’s enforcement report said. The products were distributed under a number of private label brands, including US Foods, DYMA Brands, Flavor Fresh, Sysco House Recipe, Katy’s Kitchen, and Gordon Food Service.
The peanut butter came in a variety of small quantities, including single serve cups and packets. It also included small individual servings of grape jelly, the FDA said. A full list of products can be found here.
According to the FDA, the products were called because of “foreign material.”
“During production, the firm found pieces of blue plastic in a filter,” the FDA’s report said.
