Marshals, one of the highly anticipated spinoffs of Yellowstoneis set to premiere soon on March 1 on CBS, appears to be lacking one major character in its cast. Does the official trailer foreshadow the death of a major character and set up the premise of the series?

In it, we see Kacey Dutton (Luke Grimes) join the U.S. Marshals, albeit somewhat reluctantly. As Yellowstone fans know, Kacey was a former Navy SEAL whose training leads us to believe he was possibly a sniper within the elite group. In the new series, he is recruited by an old colleague Pete (Logan Marshall-Green), to join the Marshals after Pete comes by for a "wellness" check.
Why would Kacey join the Marshals?
If Kacey was living his happily ever after with Monica (Kelsey Asbille) and Tate (Brecken Merill) and running a ranch, why would he need to join the U. S. Marshals? Unless their ranch needed a supplemental income, I can't imagine why Kacey would take his friend up on the offer. Can you?

We're pretty sure Tate didn't die because we see a glimpse of him in the trailer, standing next to Kacey in one of the shots. Plus, Brecken Merrill is listed as part of the cast of Marshals.
Did Monica leave Kayce?
We don't think Monica would have left Kayce because they seemed to be madly in love with each other. At least, we don't think she left him in a divorce...
Did Monica die?

However, we have noticed that Kelsey Asbille's name is missing from the show's cast and credits. Also, in the official trailer, it is evident that someone has died. Perhaps it is this person's death that triggers Pete into doing a wellness check on Kayce and causes him to subsequently join the Marshals.

As we know, this is a single grave and not the Yellowstone with its centuries-old graveyard. Who else could it be? We also hear Kayce tell Gifford (Brett Cullen) later in the trailer, "Yellowstone's gone. Same for most of my family." After this, we see a female silhouette—presumably Monica—approaching him, which might be footage from a previous Yellowstone episode. If Monica is actually dead, he only has two surviving immediate family members—his son Tate and his sister Beth (Kelly Reilly).
Why would the creators kill off a main character?
Let's be real: Would it be a Yellowstone spinoff without some kind of tragedy? By the end of both 1823 and 1923, several main characters were dead. Plus, we all know that Taylor Sheridan'sshows do not typically include happily-ever-after endings. Furthermore, they would need to create a plot device for Kayce to join the Marshals. He would have declined any job offer from Pete if he had been living a life of bliss, right?
