ROCHESTER, N.Y. – A Yellow Alert is posted for Wednesday for a sloppy system moving in that will likely produce some rain and the possibility of some freezing rain across the area. A degree or two could be the difference between all rain and some freezing rain, so this will likely be a somewhat changing forecast, but there’s a reasonable chance some of our areas will see some ice on Wednesday. Amounts look like a few hundredths of an inch, to a few tenths of an inch of ice, which usually wouldn’t be enough to cause damage or outages. But, it would likely lead to a small coating on trees and elevated surfaces. We’ll also likely see some slick travel, but with any ice falling during the daylight, the strength of the sun will help to melt the freezing rain shortly after it hits the pavement. Right now, the greatest risk of freezing rain looks to be north of the Thruway, with the best chance of seeing mostly rain being south of the Thruway. Check back for adjustments to the forecast.
Before that, we’ll see quiet weather on Tuesday. We’ll start off with a mostly cloudy sky and perhaps some fog, with the sky brightening a bit later in the day. Highs will hold in the upper 30s to near 40.
Wednesday turns sloppy with that wintry mix, with quieter and dry weather moving back in for Thursday. It is looking like we may see another batch of snow, freezing rain and ice on Friday. Temperatures look like they may rise into the 40s, which would then change any icy or frozen precipitation over to plain rain. After that, we’re back to a more wintry pattern with chillier air and some snow showers into the weekend and early next week.
