South Carolina is adding former Gamecock quarterback and wide receiver Luke Doty to its coaching staff for the 2026 season, according to a report from TheBigSpur247 on Sunday afternoon.
Doty was reportedly added to Shane Beamer‘s defensive coaching staff during the past few weeks, and he’s started his coaching life in Columbia by working with the Gamecocks’ secondary.
The 24-year-old has a long history already with the program on the field, playing in 47 games over 6 seasons at South Carolina. His mixture of playing time as a quarterback and wideout made Doty a unique fixture with the program. He threw for 1,696 yards with 9 touchdown passes and 9 interceptions during his quarterback days, and he even rushed for 193 yards and 2 TDs as a QB.

Now, Doty is reportedly trading in his Gamecocks helmet at long last for this new coaching role in Columbia, where he would be working with South Carolina defensive backs coach Torian Gray.
Doty joined the only collegiate program he’s called home way back in 2020, signing with South Carolina as an in-state product out of Myrtle Beach High School during that 2020 cycle.
