Orange County Coast and San Diego County Coastal Areas are the focus of a high surf advisory issued at 3:40 a.m. on Sunday by the National Weather Service. The advisory is valid from Monday 10 a.m. until Thursday Feb. 19, at 4 a.m.
“Large breaking waves of 8 to 10 feet, with sets to 13 feet. Minor coastal flooding will also be a threat,” can be anticipated according to the NWS San Diego CA. “Surf will peak Wednesday morning through Wednesday evening. Rip currents are powerful channels of water flowing quickly away from shore, which occur most often at low spots or breaks in the sandbar and in the vicinity of structures such as groins, jetties and piers. Heed the advice of lifeguards, beach patrol, flags and signs.”
“Dangerous swimming and surfing conditions and localized beach erosion. High rip current risk. Minor tidal overflow into parking lots and boardwalks also possible,” the NWS said. “Inexperienced swimmers should remain out of the water due to dangerous surf conditions.”
