Update: High surf advisory in place for Los Angeles County beaches from Monday to Thursday

Malibu, Los Angeles County Beaches, San Luis Obispo County Beaches and Santa Barbara County Central Coast Beaches are the focus of an updated high surf advisory released at 12:32 p.m. on Saturday by the National Weather Service. The advisory is valid from Monday 10 a.m. until Thursday Feb. 19, at 9 a.m.

“Large breaking waves of 10 to 15 feet with dangerous rip currents Central Coast, and 7 to 10 feet with dangerous rip currents Los Angeles County and Malibu,” can be expected according to the NWS Los Angeles/Oxnard CA. “Minor coastal flooding possible around mid-morning and late-evening times of high tide.”

    “There is an increased risk for ocean drowning. Rip currents can pull swimmers and surfers out to sea. Large breaking waves can cause injury, wash people off beaches and rocks, and capsize small boats near shore,” according to the NWS. “Remain out of the water due to dangerous surf conditions, or stay near occupied lifeguard towers. Rock jetties can be deadly in such conditions, stay off the rocks.”
