Courtney Thorne-Smith is proud to be a woman, and she's feeling powerful.
Thorne-Smith, 58, got her start in the ’80s in flicks like Summer School, and went on to stardom on the iconic ’90s series Melrose Place. The primetime soap opera, which was a spinoff of Beverly Hills, 90210, followed a group of young adults living in a chic apartment complex in West Hollywood. The show also starred Grant Show, Thomas Calabro, Andrew Shue, Heather Locklear, and Josie Bissett, as well as several other stars.
After Melrose, Thorne-Smith took off for another iconic series: Ally McBeal. The legal comedy/drama followed McBeal, famously played by Calista Flockhart, as well as a team of zany legal eagles as they navigated life and love in Boston. Thorne-Smith played Georgia Thomas on the series, which co-starred Portia de Rossi, Lucy Liu, Peter MacNicol, Greg Germann, and several other beloved actors.
Thorne-Smith went on to spend eight years on According to Jim with Jim Belushi, followed by a full season on Two and a Half Men. These days, you wouldn’t even know it’s been almost three decades since her time on Melrose and McBeal.
"I'm hearing from a lot of women that they're feeling powerless in today's political climate, and I just want you to know that that is a lie. Women are not powerless. We are powerful beyond measure, especially when we get together to support each other," said Thorne-Smith in a new Instagram post, who goes on to describe her weekly girls' night ritual.

Thorne-Smith teams up with her former Melrose Place costars Daphne Zuniga and Laura Leighton for an iHeartRadio podcast, Still the Place, in which the trio recaps old episodes of the show. Thorne-Smith played aspiring advertising executive Alison Parker on the popular series.
“We want to have the conversation with our friends,” Thorne-Smith told The Hollywood Reporter. “We want to be talking to them about what they remember and what was going on, because it’s so crazy the things you remember about what happened that day on set. What else was going on? It’s amazing how much you retain once you see it again.”
