Man rescued from Chicago River by Wendella boat crew after falling off bridge

A man who fell off a bridge and into the icy Chicago River was rescued by a Wendella boat crew giving an architecture tour Friday afternoon.

Around noon, a Chicago Fire Department boat could be seen near the Michigan Avenue bridge over the Chicago River responding to a call for a water rescue.

    Crew members from a Wendella Boat giving an architecture tour rescued a man fell into the Chicago River from the Michigan Avenue bridge, a representative of the company told NBC Chicago.

    The man was unresponsive when he was first pulled from the river, the Wendella representative said. A passenger onboard the tour performed CPR on the man and boat crew members used a defibrillator that was onboard to try to resuscitate the man.

    He was jolted back to life while on the boat, the representative said, however his current condition is unknown.

    Video obtained by NBC Chicago from Wendella Boats shows the man being pulled from the river by the boat crew.

    He was taken to a local hospital after the rescue, according to CFD.

    Video taken by NBC Chicago of the recue showed people on the Wendella boat and on shore cheering as CFD personnel carried the man off the boat.
