2026 North Carolina High School Athletic Association 4A State Championships
Feb. 12, 2026 Cary, N.C. SCY (25 yards) ResultsThe North Carolina High School Athletic Association pushed its state swimming and diving meets back a week due to a winter storm. But success was only delayed, not denied, for the Lake Norman Charter girls and boys.
The Lake Norman Charter girls’ team won its third straight state championship, while the boys’ team won its second in a row at the 4A state meet.
The teams each won 3A championships last year, but the NCHSAA expanded from three to six state meets this year.
Girls’ Recap
Lake Norman cruised to a third straight championship thanks in large part to its relay squads, which swept all three events.
In the 200 medley relay, the team of Skye Yampolsky (29.11), Lily Price (31.70), Campbelle Cyrus (26.08) and Dakota Gayle (25.13) won in a time of 1:52.02.
The 200 free relay was later won by Lake Norman Charter’s squad of Mikayla Freeland (25.71), Lilly Wykoff (25.85), Caroline Parker (25.42) and Alana Kolano (25.69) in 1:42.67.
Finally, the school’s 400 free relay team of Gayle (54.52), Yampolsky (54.43), Price (56.29) and Cyrus (54.68) took first in a time of 3:39.92.
Individually, four Lake Norman Charter swimmers earned victories.
Gayle, a sophomore, won the 200 free in 1:58.12. The SwimMAC product owns a personal best of 1:54.55 set last March. Kaitlyn Knutsen won the 1-meter diving event (in a two-member field) with 322.40 points. Price, a junior, won the 100 breast in a time of 1:07.68, narrowly edging out West Stokes junior Elizabeth Grabs (1:07.89). Price set her current best time of 1:06.97 in December. Also a junior, Cyrus took the 100 fly in 57.26, chipping one one-hundredth off her personal best time..The MVP of the meet was Fred T. Foard senior Kathryn Cinson, a Duquesne commit who first swam a personal best time of 2:10.10 to win the 200 IM. Cinson then won the 500 free in a time of 5:07.87.
Other individual winners were:
Julia Sherrill of Brevard, an Iona commit, won the 50 free in 24.12. Megan Becker, a senior from Uwharrie Charter Academy, topped the field in the 100 free with a time of 52.45. Annabelle Gangloff of Carrboro won the 100 back in a personal best time of 58.49.Girls Team Standings — Top 5

As was the case in the girls’ meet, the Lake Norman Charter boys swept all three relay events.
The team of Neil Hart (25.89), Coby Werner (28.11), Alex Stinson (23.93) and Charlie Arning (22.48) started the meet off by winning the 200 medley relay in 1:40.41.
Lake Norman Charter later won the 200 free relay behind the team of Declan Fitz (23.32), Quade Williams (24.19), Evan Mason (23.06) and Eric Robertson (23.37) in 1:33.94.
In the 400 free relay, the team of Hart (50.47), Arning (50.21), Werner (49.22) and Stinson (47.96) won in a time of 3:17.86.
The only Lake Norman Charter performer to win an individual event was Sawyer Landman, who won the 1-meter diving event with 337.90 points.
The MVP of the meet was Joshua Poche of Brevard, who swept the 100 free (47.35) and 200 free (1:44.45), setting new lifetime bests in both.
East Gaston’s Philip Johnson was the other multiple event winner, taking 1st in the 200 IM (1:56.91) and the 100 breast (58.08). He set respective personal bests of 1:55.98 and 57.69 in late 2025.
Other individual winners were:
Burns junior Troy Spangler won the 50 free in a time of 22.31. Josh Jones of Carrboro won the 100 fly in 52.76. Carrboro’s Aaron Maiorana captured the 500 free in a time of 4:44.33. Joseph Bria of Central Academy of Technology won the 100 back in 53.76.Boys Team Standings — Top 5
