Alex and Ashley were confident before they saw each other in person for the first time. Alex told the camera his body is a shell, a very good shell, but that doesn't mean he's a good person. Alex claimed he knew what Ashley looked like based on her heart in the pods. We asked what he pictured.
"That it's not really gonna matter what she looks like," he answered. "That I–she's the level of physical standard that I'm chasing." Ashley said Alex assumed she was brunette after their reveal in episode 3. He denied it, but she was confident that was the case. "Maybe I thought it, went back and forth," he finally admitted. "I'm happy you're blonde, though."
The former soccer player advised young men to set up an emotional connection first. He said the process might help address the failed relationships athletes fall into during their careers because they prioritize looks. "And then they get to 35, and the guy's done playing sports, and she's not really looking necessarily the way she used to," Alex told the camera, "and they realize we're not really meant to be together."
Hopefully, getting to know someone behind a wall will rule out the problem of not having anything in common. But Alex revealed to Brittany Wicker that he's typically into women with darker features, not his fiancée's blonde hair and light eyes. Parade asked Alex if he fell into the same trap he referenced on the show.
"I mean, not 35 yet, but I do know your point," he said. "And I don't want to say I fell into a trap. I do think I'm uncovering more about myself as well. I think what I was trying to say, and it probably didn't come out as articulately, is basically, physical and emotional are equal. They're both important, and that's what I was chasing."
He chalked up to his age being a reason for his mindset. "I think the emotional, probably trumps physical the later you go on in life, but I don't know because I'm still living it myself, too," the 31-year-old man continued. "I'm just like, these guys are figuring this out, as I go along, and doing my very best with what shows up in front of me. And that's the best I got right now."
The Love Is Blind cast will see each other's homes and introduce their partners to their families. Season 10 episodes 7 to 9 will be released on Netflix, Wednesday, February 18.
