ROCHESTER, N.Y. — The Rochester Knighthawks are preparing to return home on Saturday, aiming to break a three-game losing streak as they enter the second half of their season.
The Knighthawks started the season strong with a 4-1 record, but have struggled recently. Despite the setbacks, Assistant Captain Ryland Rees remained optimistic.
“Yeah, I think it’s just kind of riding the ups and downs of the season,” Rees said. “So right now there’s actually no panic.”
Jake Piseno, a defender who has six goals and four assists this season, emphasized the importance of resilience.
“Every season goes like this. It’s not ever going to go all the way up. It’s not ever going to go all the way down. You got to ride the waves,” Piseno said.
During this 0-3 period, Rochester has narrowly lost two games by just one goal. Taylor Jensen, a transition player for the Nighthawks, highlighted the importance of focusing on future opportunities.
“In every game you have so many opportunities to pick up a ground ball to make a good play. And if you don’t, maybe we drop one game, right? Focus on the next,” Jensen said. “There’s another opportunity coming.”
Jensen expressed the team’s eagerness to move past the losing streak.
“Yeah, we’re really hungry and, and I think, the next half of the season is going to go really well,” Jensen said.
Captain Dan Coates shared the team’s desire to get back on the field.
“If we could play tonight, I’m sure the 25 of us in the locker room, whatever it is, we’d want to play,” Coates said.
Coates also saw the recent adversity as a potential benefit for the team.
“Honestly think going through adversity, it kind of shows what type of team you’re going to be right there. You come together or you let it affect you. But, it’s a good thing for us. It’s healthy and, it’s going to make us better in the long run,” Coates said.
The Knighthawks will look to secure their first win in a month at the Blue Cross Arena on Saturday. The game against the Ottawa Black Bears is scheduled to begin at 7 pm
