Today co-anchor Savannah Guthrie‘s mom, Nancy Guthrie, 84, remains missing after she was abducted from her Tucson, Ariz. home—and Derrick Callella, the man arrested for sending a fake ransom note demanding Bitcoin, recently appeared in court.
On Thursday, Feb. 12, Callella appeared in federal court on one count of intent to transmit a ransom demand and one count of utilizing a telecommunications device to anonymously abuse, threaten or harass a person, KOLD reported.

According to court paperwork, Callella allegedly sent a text from a VOIP (internet) phone line that read: “Did you get the bitcoin were [sic] waiting on our end for the transaction.” The message came right after the Guthrie family posted a video on Instagram asking for proof of life for their mother on Feb. 4.
Investigators traced the phone line, discovered that it was registered to Callella’s Gmail account, determined it was made from his home near Los Angeles, KOLD reported. On Thursday, he was released from custody under several conditions, including no contact with any witnesses or victims and having all of his devices monitored.

As of Feb. 12, Nancy still had not been located.
