A Ukrainian skeleton rider has been banned from Milan-Cortina 2026 over a helmet that broke rules on political express.
Vladylsav Heraskevych, who was due to compete in his third Winter Olympic Games, had designed a helmet with pictures of 24 athletes of his home country killed during the invasion of Ukraine.
He had used the helmet during all his practice runs, but been told in multiple meetings with the International Olympic Committee (IOC) that he would not be allowed to use it in competition.
However, he insisted he would only compete in that helmet and no other, as a result of which his accreditation for the Games was withdrawn on Thursday morning, minutes before his first run.
