Former Bears Offensive Coordinator Luke Getsy is Getting a Promotion From the Packers

Somehow, Luke Getsy continue to keep finding ways to move up in the coaching world.

When Jordan Love starts working on building toward the 2026 NFL season after the Packers’ playoff ouster by the Bears, Green Bay’s quarterback will have a new position coach — and it happens to be someone with whom Chicago football fans have some familiarity:

The Packers are naming Luke Getsy their quarterbacks coach, sources say. After offensive coordinator stints with Chicago and Las Vegas, Getsy returned to Green Bay last year as a senior assistant and now replaces Sean Mannion, who left for the Eagles OC job.[image or embed]

NFL Network insider Tom Pelissero reports that Luke Getsy is receiving a promotion from the Packers. After spending time in each of the last two seasons in advisory and consultant roles, Getsy will be Green Bay’s new quarterbacks coach.

Getsy replaces Sean Mannion, who was Green Bay’s quarterbacks coach in 2025 and had been on the staff as an offensive assistant since 2024. Back in January, Mannion left the Packers to become the new offensive coordinator for the Philadelphia Eagles. This will be Getsy’s third stint with the tam. In his first go-around with Green Bay from 2014-17, he spent time as an offensive quality control coach and wide receivers coach. After a one-year stop as Mississippi State’s offensive coordinator and receivers coach, Getsy returned to Green Bay with the quarterbacks coach and passing game coordinator titles.

Luke Getsy to become new Packers QBs coach

Luke Getsy was the Chicago Bears’ offensive coordinator in 2022 and 2023. His failure to build an offense around 2021 first-round pick Justin Fields helped lead to his dismissal after the 2023 campaign. The Las Vegas Raiders provided Getsy with a soft landing in 2024 by naming him offensive coordinator. But that lasted all of nine weeks because the Raiders canned Getsy after the team’s Week 9 loss, marking the second time in the span of 11 months that a team had dumped him from NFL play-calling duties. Despite his shortcomings, Getsy found his way back to Green Bay — first as a defensive consultant, later as a senior offensive assistant, and now as the team’s quarterbacks coach.

On the one hand, I am impressed with Luke Getsy’s ability to continue to fail upward. If only we could all be that fortunate in life. But on the other hand, I see another Getsy promotion as a reminder of how the NFL keeps recycling so many of the same coaches despite evidence suggesting that they aren’t deserving of another chance. If this was any team other than the Packers, I’d write something suggesting that their quarterback deserves better. But because this is the Packers we’re talking about, and I don’t want them to have nice things. Instead, I hope things flop in a spectacular fashion that mirrors what happened with the Raiders.
