Collin Sexton has officially played two games in a Bulls uniform, and that feels like the appropriate amount of time to form a completely rational overreaction.
In this deep guard rotation, he’s looked like he’s at the bottom of it. Right now, Josh Giddey, Tre Jones, Anfernee Simons, Jaden Ivey, and even Rob Dillingham all look like they have a place on this Bulls team long-term. Collin Sexton, on the other hand, might be advised not to unpack his bags or start house hunting. He could very well be a major trade chip in the offseason if Chicago decides it wants to try again next year.
However, he is an energy shifter. He is the “Young Bull,” and he plays like it. He gets the crowd involved. He keeps the building in the game. The United Center loves a guy who can do that, and Sexton absolutely can.
The Bulls are one of the NBA’s ethical tankers. They don’t try to lose; they just happen to. They play an exciting brand of basketball. So for now, he’s definitely something this team needs. The front office wants fans to feel like the product on the court is better than it actually is, and Sexton can absolutely upsell that.
