In the wake of a very, very busy NBA trade deadline (especially for our Chicago Bulls) last week, the league has remained fairly busy. As our Bulls look to tank excessively (they’ve dropped eight of their last nine games) while trotting out seemingly every cast-off guard in the league, it’s understandable to want to look elsewhere for the interesting storylines.
And we’ve got a doozy of them this week, including some big developments for a few ex-Chicago pieces.
Ingram, Sengun Named All-Star Injury Replacements
NBA commissioner Adam Silver has named two more injury replacements for this weekend’s All-Star Game. Silver already brought in LA Clippers swingman Kawhi Leonard to sub in for an injured Giannis Antetokounmpo.
The league announced Houston Rockets center/power forward Alperen Sengun to his second straight All-Star team and has named Toronto Raptors small forward Brandon Ingram to his second All-Star team ever — his first since 2020.
Sengun will be replacing Oklahoma City Thunder MVP Shai Gilgeous-Alexander, who’ll miss the fun with an abdominal strain. Ingram, meanwhile, is subbing in for 12-time Golden State Warriors All-Star point guard Stephen Curry, who’ll sit with a knee injury.
Ken Blaze-Imagn ImagesDalen Terry Joins Philadelphia 76ers on Two-Way Deal
Former Chicago Bull Dalen Terry has agreed to a two-way contract with an actual contending franchise, per Adam Aaronson of The Philly Voice.
Chicago had shipped Terry to the New York Knicks for power forward/center Guerschon Yabusele and $500K in cash. The Knicks subsequently traded Terry and a pair of second-round picks to the New Orleans Pelicans for point guard Jose Alvarado. New Orleans then waived Terry, who was selected with the No. 18 pick in the 2022 NBA Draft by Chicago.
After promoting former two-way power forward Dominick Barlowe to a standard roster deal, Philadelphia had an open two-way roster.
Terry never found his footing in Chicago, but he’s still a raw athlete with some clear defensive upside. Maybe Philadelphia’s developmental program can help the 23-year-old become a productive NBA player.
Cam Thomas Signs with Bucks
After being waived by the Brooklyn Nets while on an expiring contract, shooting guard Cam Thomas agreed to a new deal with the Milwaukee Bucks.
Thomas failed to come to terms with Brooklyn on a long-term contract last summer, and ultimately picked up his $8.8 million qualifying offer for 2025-26 with a plan to ride that out. Things soured so much that, when Brooklyn failed to find a taker for his money, the Nets just cut Thomas outright.
Per Eric Nehm of The Athletic, Thomas indicated that he’s been on Milwaukee’s radar for a while.
“The front office told me that they always wanted me, always called about me, been trying to get me here for years,” Thomas said. “That definitely plays a part in your decision to go somewhere, because I really felt wanted by the guys. Talked to Doc [Rivers] before. It was great. Great conversations. Just seeing the team, I feel like I can actually help and contribute and just blend in and be one of the guys.”
Jayne Kamin-Oncea-Imagn ImagesCavaliers Promoting Nae’Qwan Tomlin
The Cleveland Cavaliers, on the heels of their surprise blockbuster trade of 26-year-old Darius Garland for 36-year-old James Harden, have made another addition to their 15-man standard roster.
Shams Charania of ESPN reports that Cleveland is promoting forward Nae’Qwan Tomlin from a two-way deal to a standard roster spot. This deal was widely expected, as Tomlin has become a rotation piece in Cleveland this year, averaging 17.1 minutes across 43 games with the Cavaliers. Tomlin had barely played for the Cavaliers’ G League affiliate, the Cleveland Charge, since he was getting too useful for the Cavs proper.
Two-way players are only permitted to appear in 50 NBA games during a given season, so this move seemed to be impending.
Cleveland has gone 2-0 since adding Harden, who as tends to be the case after a trade has been looking great. When the chips are down in a playoff series, which Harden will show up? That’s the real question surrounding the Harden trade, which will certainly improve the Cavaliers in the short-term but could cap their ceiling going forward.
Troy Wayrynen-Imagn ImagesInjury Updates Around The League
All-NBA Boston Celtics superstar power forward Jayson Tatum will put in reps with the club’s NBAGL affiliate, the Maine Celtics, per a team press release (via Marc Stein of The Stein Line). Tatum has missed the entire season so far while rehabbing an Achilles tendon tear suffered during last spring’s playoffs, but this news indicates that a return could be imminent. At the very least, it represents a big step in his recovery. Six-time All-Star Golden State Warriors small forward Jimmy Butler went under the knife in L.A. for right knee ACL reconstruction surgery on Monday, per a Warriors press statement. The Warriors will provide their next injury update on the 36-year-old Marquette product “early next season.” The former Bulls superstar will be on an expiring $56.8 million contract for 2026-27. Golden State decided not to offload his money in a deadline trade, and instead brought back oft-hurt former All-Star center Kristaps Porzingis’ expiring deal. In 38 healthy games with the Warriors this year, Butler had looked like a fringe contender for his seventh All-Star game. Butler had helped Draymond Green add some size and toughness to Golden State defensively (arguably more than Green at this point), while also serving as a supplemental elite scorer behind All-Star point guard Stephen Curry, averaging 20.0 points on .519/.376/.864 shooting splits, 5.6 rebounds, 4.9 assists and 1.4 steals a night. The very banged-up Indiana Pacers have lost another body for the year. Per Michael Scotto of HoopsHype, second-year shooting guard Johnny Furphy has torn his right ACL. Furphy had been a key piece for the lowly Pacers (13-40) this year, starting in 21 of his 35 healthy games. Indiana is also without All-NBA point guard Tyrese Haliburton for the season with an Achilles tear, and has been missing key backup power forward Obi Toppin for all but three games. Ailing Chicago Bulls point guards Josh Giddey and Tre Jones are expected to return from left hamstring injuries at some point after the impending All-Star break, reports Joe Cowley of The Chicago Sun-Times. © Alonzo Adams-Imagn ImagesOdds & Ends
The league is looking into the Oklahoma City Thunder’s decision to rest key players in a national game against the San Antonio Spurs last week, reports Dan Woike of The Athletic. Without All-Stars Shai Gilgeous-Alexander, Jalen Williams, or Chet Holmgren, plus starters Isaiah Hartenstein and Luguentz Dort and All-Defensive Team guard Alex Caruso, the reigning champs fell 116-106 to San Antonio. Following a red-hot season start, the Thunder were expected to threaten for a 70-win season. That dream is dead now, as OKC has gone a still-great 41-13 thus far this year. The focus now, already, appears to be health for the playoffs. The Charlotte Hornets have re-signed reserve shooting guard Pat Connaughton to a two-way contract after cutting Malaki Branham, reports Scotto. Charlotte holds a 2026-27 team option on Connaughton for $3.82 million, Scotto adds. As Chicago continues to tank its way out of the play-in tournament bracket and the Milwaukee Bucks struggle to win consistently sans Giannis Antetokounmpo, the Hornets are making a postseason push. Recently-extended LA Clippers team president Lawrence Frank recently claimed the team hadn’t heard anything further from the league about its investigation into seven-time All-Star Kawhi Leonard’s empty relationship with disgraced ex-team sponsor Aspiration since September, reports Law Murray of The Athletic. San Antonio Spurs wing Stephon Castle and Atlanta Hawks All-Star power forward Jalen Johnson have been named the NBA’s newest Players of the Week, per Stein. Castle averaged 24.0 points, 7.3 rebounds and 7.3 assists in three games (all wins) for San Antonio last week. In a 2-1 run with Atlanta, Johnson averaged 27.3 points, 12.0 rebounds and 11.3 assists.Hence then, the article about around the nba all star replacements new homes for dalen terry and cam thomas more was published today ( ) and is available on Bleacher Nation ( Middle East ) The editorial team at PressBee has edited and verified it, and it may have been modified, fully republished, or quoted.
