Every NFL offseason seems to have a main character whose potential movement to another team makes them a central figure in the league’s offseason news cycle. It seems that Las Vegas Raiders star pass rusher Maxx Crosby is this year’s pick to click. Crosby-related trade rumors date back to the fall, but those were squashed when it was made clear that the five-time Pro Bowler did not want to leave Vegas. However, things have changed since the dust settled on the 2025 NFL Trade Deadline.

Maxx Crosby trade rumors began picking up in late December when the Raiders wanted to shut their star down as the race for the No. 1 pick in the 2026 NFL Draft came down to the wire. Crosby didn’t seem to take too kindly to that, which put his future with the team in question. And with NFL insider Jay Glazer hinting at Crosby’s time with the Raiders possibly coming to an end soon, more trade rumors figure to pop up here, there, and everywhere. At a minimum, this will be fun to follow. Heck, we’ve already looked at the potential cost of a Crosby trade just in case that is what it comes to for the sack artist.
Considering the Chicago Bears’ needs along the defensive line, I fully expect Crosby’s name to come up in conversation when the rumor mill really gets spinning. Heck, Bears General Manager Ryan Poles cheekily responded to a question about a potential Crosby trade during his season-ending press conference. But we are such a long way from crossing that bridge, let alone getting to it. And yet, we already have much to discuss when it comes to Maxx Crosby trade rumors.

HOW DID WE GET TO THIS POINT?
In her Super Bowl notebook dump, The Athletic’s Dianna Russini reported there was a strong sense around the league that Maxx Crosby could be had in a trade this offseason. Russini cites her previous reporting, which detailed a strained relationship between the team and a clearly frustrated star that began taking root when the team wanted to sideline Crosby for the final two games of the regular season. She adds the price figures to be high, referencing the Micah Parsons package the Dallas Cowboys received for sending their disgruntled star pass rusher to the Green Bay Packers.
As far as I’m concerned, the most eye-popping nugget from Russini is that the Raiders aren’t expected to make Crosby stay if he actually wants out. This situation not being a drag-out affair would make trade negotiations easier than you might otherwise expect. Again, this is something worth keeping tabs on this offseason.
WHICH TEAMS COULD BE INTERESTED IN A MAXX CROSBY TRADE?
In addition to The Athletic’s Dianna Russini mentioning that Crosby “would love to play” for New England Patriots Head Coach Mike Vrabel, ESPN’s Jeremy Fowler name-checks the Buffalo Bills, Detroit Lions, San Francisco 49ers, Dallas Cowboys, Baltimore Ravens, and Tampa Bay Buccaneers as teams that could make sense as landing spots for Crosby. If it isn’t the Bears, my hope would be that a team outside of the NFC North would make the deal. Bonus points for a team in the AFC stepping up and keeping him out of Chicago’s conference altogether.
For whatever it’s worth, Pro Football Talk’s Mike Florio shared reporting from Jason LaCanfora, who quotes an unnamed NFL GM who says that Maxx Crosby has made it clear to upper-management what he wants.
“He told Tom Brady he will never play for the Raiders again. That’s a fact. He told them he’ll retire before he ever plays for them again. But I’m not sure they’re actually going to trade him. Myles Garrett said the same thing last year, and we know how that ended up.”
I’m never sure what to make of LaCanfora’s reporting, but it serves as a datapoint for our larger conversation. Take it for whatever it is worth to you and move on with your day.

If you are thinking that a Maxx Crosby trade is something that could be imminent, I need you to readjust your expectations. NFL Network insider Ian Rapoport paints a picture of a situation that might need months to shake out. Remember, Crosby had surgery to repair a meniscus issue in early January. Rapoport notes that recovery could take somewhere between 4-6 weeks or 3-4 months, depending on the procedure. This is important, as it would mean that Crosby wouldn’t be medically cleared before the start of the new league year on March 11, which is the type of thing that could throw a wrench in trade plans.
Trading a star player, such as Maxx Crosby, likely isn’t something that Raiders ownership wants to do. However, doing so would be the kind of move that could accelerate the type of full-scale rebuild the Raiders desperately need to start undertaking. However, Rap Sheet’s read on the situation is that it could take some time for things to work out.
Sports Illustrated NFL insider Albert Breer notes that this situation could come to a head at the NFL Scouting Combine in Indianapolis, which begins on February 23. In recent years, the Combine has been a breeding ground for trade rumors and free agency buzz, while also serving as a place where teams lay the groundwork for deals. We’ll be watching what happens in Indy with great interest.
