Los Angeles County beaches placed under a high surf advisory until Wednesday night

Catalina/Santa Barbara Islands, Malibu and Los Angeles County Beaches are included in a high surf advisory issued by the National Weather Service on Tuesday at 2:17 a.m. The advisory is in effect until Wednesday Feb. 11, at 9 p.m.

The NWS Los Angeles/Oxnard CA states to expect, “Large breaking waves of 5 to 9 feet with dangerous rip currents.”

“There is an increased risk for ocean drowning. Rip currents can pull swimmers and surfers out to sea. Large breaking waves can cause injury, wash people off beaches and rocks, and capsize small boats near shore,” the NWS said. “Remain out of the water due to dangerous surf conditions, or stay near occupied lifeguard towers. Rock jetties can be deadly in such conditions, stay off the rocks.”
