Chicago-area natives help deliver Super Bowl win with standout plays

Three Chicago-area natives won the Super Bowl with the Seattle Seahawks, and two made key plays in the showdown.

Seahawks safety Julian Love helped seal the win with an interception in the fourth quarter.

“I’d be kidding you if I didn’t dream of that in the backyard when I was 8, 9 years old, to see that ball in the air,” Love said.

After the Super Bowl, the 2016 Nazareth Academy graduate talked about growing up in Chicago and suburban Westchester.

“I love where I come from. It took a village for me to get here,” Love said. “It means a lot. I feel the love. My family feels the love, for all the support.”

His parents and siblings flew from Chicago to attend Super Bowl LX in Santa Clara, California.

“There’s a lot of support and love coming from Chicago, and we truly appreciate it,” said DT Love, Julian’s father.

They celebrated with him on the field after the game.

“I’m an emotional person, so a lot of tears. Luckily, my children here behind me were like, ‘It’s ok, Mom,’” said Ivonne Love, Julian’s mother.

Julian’s wife also attended the Super Bowl with their 2-year-old son, who slept through part of the game.

“He just looked at all of us like, what is happening here? Why is everyone jumping and screaming and hugging? But I think he was more excited after the game to get down on the field and play around in the confetti,” DT Love said.

The family plans to head back to Chicago on Monday night.

“I’m going to go home back home to Chicago with my son. We have a second on the way in March, and we’re just going to enjoy being together with our family,” said Julian Love.

Seahawks defensive lineman Rylie Mills, a suburban Lake Bluff native, made his first NFL sack ever during the Super Bowl.

“Better late than never,” Mills said after the game in the locker room.

The 2020 Lake Forest High School graduate hasn’t played much since tearing his ACL in last year’s college football playoffs.

“A year ago I wasn’t even walking. So, it’s just a testament to our coaching staff and the training staff to get me here. I think six months ago this wouldn’t have seemed possible, but with their help, I mean I can’t believe it,” Mills said.

Julian Love’s family said they also cheered for Rylie Mills especially since they each played at Notre Dame.

“The first thing I screamed when he got his sack was ‘luck of the Irish,” said Devinne Love, Julian’s sister.

“Chicago can play football,” said Michael Love, Julian’s brother.

Another Chicago area native also suited up for the Seahawks during the Super Bowl.

Suburban Hoffman Estates native Eric Saubert didn’t have a catch in the Super Bowl, but the Seahawks tight end did make the game winning catch in Seattle’s overtime victory against the Rams during the regular season.
