To bring the new system online, the state is pausing all DMV operations, including online and the phone system, at 2 p.m. on Friday, Feb. 13. During the transition, the New York State DMV will migrate about 30 million records to the new system.
Offices will be closed on Monday, Feb. 16, for Presidents’ Day Holiday and Tuesday, Feb. 17, for DMV system rollout. It will reopen on Wednesday, Feb. 18, given that the DMV has the go-ahead from state leadership.
Monroe County DMV new check-in system
There have been more changes at the Monroe County DMV. Last week, the DMV introduced a new automated check-in system called QLess. Instead of talking to someone at the counter, people will check in using a tablet, aiming to reduce wait times. However, some customers that News10NBC spoke with said they found the new system confusing.
Tougher driving penalties
Changes are also coming to the DMV’s driver point system. Right now, accumulating 11 points within 18 months can lead to a license suspension.
