Guess Who Has the Toughest NFL Strength of Schedule in 2026?

The dust is still settling on Super Bowl LX, but Chicago Bears fans are already looking forward to next year.

After the year we had following the team in 2025, can you blame us?

So while the 2026 NFL season won’t kick off until September, we already know which teams the Bears will be squaring off against this upcoming season. Hopefully, everyone at Halas Hall is ready for an uphill battle because it appears as if Chicago’s football team has the toughest strength of schedule going into next season:

Sometimes, I think we make too much of strength of schedule based on the previous year’s records. If you’ll recall, the Bears’ 2025 list of opponents featured six teams that went to the playoffs the prior season and seven teams that finished above .500. It was supposed to make for tough sledding. And yet, Chicago held its own by going 5-5 against 2024’s playoff teams and 3-2 against teams that qualified for the postseason in 2025.

Even still … I think it is a worthwhile discussion point as we look ahead to next season.

List of 2026 Chicago Bears Opponents Gives Them the NFL’s Toughest Strength of Schedule

These are the teams the Bears will square off against during the 2026 season:

HOME: Green Bay Packers, Detroit Lions, Minnesota Vikings, Tampa Bay Buccaneers, Philadelphia Eagles, Jacksonville Jaguars, New York Jets, New England Patriots, New Orleans Saints.

The good news is that the Bears have an extra home game during the regular season. But the bad (?) news is that they could lose it to an international game. On the one hand, I don’t love the idea of losing a home game to the league’s international series. But on the other hand, I wouldn’t mind a trip to Spain. After visiting Barcelona in 1999, I’m long overdue for an international trip across the pond.

Last week, we discussed details of the NFL’s agreement to play regular-season games in Spain starting in 2026 came out. With Spain being designated as a home market for the Bears as part of the league’s international expansion initiative in 2021, would it surprise you to see Madrid as a “home” site for Chicago’s football team? Considering that the Bears probably want to play nice with the league as its stadium situation gets settled, I can see the organization accepting a trip overseas without making a fuss about it.

As far is the home slate of opponents is concerned, it is a mixed bag. The Bears will play host to the Super Bowl runners-up (Patriots), the NFC East champs (Eagles), a pair of potentially competitive NFC South teams (Buccaneers, Saints), and a 2025 bottom-feeder (Jets). Will Aaron Glenn still be coaching the New York Jets when they come to town? If so, that would set up a battle of former assistants who interviewed for Chicago’s head coaching vacancy in 2025 and were coordinators under Detroit Lions Head Coach Dan Campbell.

If I was forced to choose one home game to attend next year, it would be the showdown against New England that pits 2024 NFL Draft first-overall pick Caleb Williams against No. 3 overall pick Drake Maye. I imagine that will be a marquee game in a prime window that multiple networks will want to have on their airwaves.

Chicago’s road slate of games includes a handful of playoff teams and five games against teams with winning records:

AWAY: Green Bay Packers, Detroit Lions, Minnesota Vikings, Buffalo Bills, Miami Dolphins, Atlanta Falcons, Carolina Panthers, Seattle Seahawks.

The group above includes the defending Super Bowl champs (Seahawks), three other teams that qualified for the postseason (Packers, Bills, Panthers), and two teams (Vikings, Lions) that missed the playoffs despite finishing the season with winning records. This isn’t as daunting as last year’s road slate, but navigating the away games won’t be easy for Chicago’s football team.

Hey, maybe that Bears-Falcons game in Atlanta can be a winner-gets-a-comp-pick game!

One thing that stands out about the opponents on the road schedule is that there is a non-zero chance that the Bears could be will be the opposition for the Seattle Seahawks in Week 1 for the Thursday night opener. I thought there was a chance of the league putting the Bears and Eagles in last year’s lid-lifter. Instead, they saved that game for Black Friday — and it was a doozy. Even if it isn’t in the 2026 NFL opener, it wouldn’t surprise me to see one of the league’s broadcast or streaming partners angle to get Bears-Seahawks in a prime viewing window.
